National Tree Day Oct 5th
To celebrate Tetra Pak Tree Day, over 1,000 Oak tree saplings* will be made available through the website, www.treeday.ie, for primary school children to plant on their school grounds. Planting these saplings will help teach children about the importance of planting trees to improve biodiversity.
In addition, guided woodland walks will be organised nationwide with locations and details of the local walks on www.treecouncil.ie/tree-day.
The guided woodland walks are organised in association with the National Parks & Wildlife Service, Coillte, the Heritage Service of the OPW and private owners. Details of Tetra Pak Tree Day forest walks available to schools are listed on www.treecouncil.ie/tree-day and www.facebook.com/treecouncilofireland
The Tree Council of Ireland is proud to continue this important aspect of environmental education and is urging people to get involved and celebrate Tetra Pak Tree Day on Thursday 5th October.
To support Tetra Pak Tree Day, the Tree Council of Ireland has developed and continues to update a comprehensive resource pack on the subject of trees with the support of Tetra Pak and the Department of Education and Skills. This is free to download from the Tree Day website www.treeday.ie. It is complimentary to the science syllabus of the school curriculum and covers over 40 topics about trees. Included are practical activities such as how to plant a tree in a school milk carton and tips for helping the environment.
