Ride the roads of Ronda Dates: 10-16 November 2018


Using the quintessentially Spanish town of Ronda as its base, Saddle Skedaddle’s seven day, guided road cycling holiday in Andalucía tackles some of the region’s most iconic road cycling routes. The five days of riding is developed with the group and ensures individual riders can set their own challenges.

Example rides include the 59km trip through the Guadiaro Valley, which follows holm oak and wild olive groves towards the limestone peaks of Tavizna and El Hacho. The route passes the entrance to the Pileta cave and includes a lunch stop at the hilltop village of Atajate.

There’s also the chance to ride one of the most iconic cycling passes in Andalucia, Puerto de las Palomas. It’s a challenging ride on the flanks of the El Torreon mountain to the stunning views at the summit. The pueblo blanco of Grazalema makes for a perfect rest stop.

Other rides include the 46km journey through the Genal Valley, a 103km ride along the beautiful Puerto del Viento (pass of the wind) into the open mountainscapes of the Sierra de las Nieves, and an exhilarating journey to the shores of the Mediterranean at Estepona.

Following quiet country roads past Andalucía’s famous pueblos blancos, Saddle Skedaddle’s seven day, guided road cycling holiday through the west of the region combines history, food, countryside and lots of Andaluz character.
Beginning in the Los Alcornocales Natural Park – the largest cork oak forest in Europe – the route leads its way through the Serrania de Ronda mountains to the edge of the Natural Park of Las Nieves.

After exploring the sights and sounds of Ronda, cycle through the Gaudiaro river valley before climbing to Puerto de las Palomas for stunning views of Grazalema’s whitewashed houses.

The trip ends with a decent of over one thousand metres to one of Andalucia’s most picturesque pueblos blancos – Arcos de la Frontera.

Get a true Vuelta a Espana experience on Saddle Skedaddle’s eight day guided road cycling holiday in Northern Spain. Taking in three of the country’s most beautiful and unspoiled wilderness regions; the Somiedo, Fuentes Carriones and the spectacular Picos de Europa National Park, this challenging trip features many routes from Spain’s Grand Tour.

After tackling the 1,587m Puerto Ventana in Somiedo Natural Park its time to take on another Vuelta classic, and what many believe to be one of the toughest climbs in road cycling – the Angliru. Ascending 1,248m with an average gradient of 9.9%, it’s a leg burning challenge for even the most experienced road cyclist.

Other highlights include the 119km ride from Potes to Cangas de Onis, which the locals call ‘La Ruta de los Cuatro Puertos’ (The Route of the Four Passes). Featuring alpine style passes, long descents, incredible mountain views and miles of smooth roads, it offers some of the best cycling on the trip.

The final ride begins with a classic Vuelta stage finish, the ascent of Lagos de Covadonga. After completing the 12km climb, enjoy the unforgettable ride over the Sierra de Cuera before following the Cantabrian coast to the pretty fishing town of Ribadesella on the banks of the river Sella.
